G.O.P keeps Its 20-Years Grip on Texas
FORT WORTH – The Republican control of Texas is intact.
According to The Associated Press, the top seats in Texas government went to Republicans on Tuesday, including governor, lieutenant governor, comptroller and attorney general. Democrats have not won a Texas governor’s race since the November 1990 election of Gov. Ann W. Richards and have not won even one of the other nearly 30 statewide elected offices since November 1994.
The A.P. projected that in addition to Greg Abbott defeating Wendy Davis in the race for governor, other top Republicans elected Tuesday included Dan Patrick as lieutenant governor, Ken Paxton as attorney general and Glenn Hegar as comptroller.
“Today, voters across this great state proved once again, that the conservative ticket prevails in the hearts of our fellow Texans,” Mr. Patrick, a state senator and Tea Party favorite, said in a statement.
