Statistically by generation 3 most Latinos are only English and lose their bilingual abilities.

command of the language decreases with each Latino generation in the U.S. For example, about 57 percent of Latinos older than 69 are proficient in Spanish. Fewer than 50 percent of Boomer and Generation X Latinos speak the language comfortably, and approximately 25 percent of Hispanic Millennial adults know the language well, according to the Pew Research Center.

Spanish fluency in the U.S. decreases with each generation

Above the fray.
Most people 'emigrate' from a country to seek better opportunities. Not to surrender their culture.
Assimilation doesn't mean surrendering of culture.

Assimilation doesn't mean surrendering of culture.

You seem to be the only one that gets the true concept of assimilation.

I’m an immigrant from a non-English speaking country and the responses in this thread are absolutely comical.

I didn’t read OP still so maybe I’m missing something tied to that but all those not in favor of assimilation are clowns.

You are obviously ignorant of the 200 years of non British European migration to the us cuz the price they paid for emigrating to the us losing their culture and language

Why should Spanish be treated different than other corny European languages?

It also doesn't mean no longer speaking your native language. :gucci:

:gucci:
If you are born in America your native language is English, regardless of where your oarents are from

If you were born in another country and you immigrate to the us you need to learn English

So either way a persons native language is irrelevant in America

If we eliminate bilingual programs, eliminate multilingual government forms, bilingual government directives and stop pressing 2 for Spanish we can bring that down to 2 generations

Porque no quieres aprender español o un idioma en general? Porque tienes tanto miedo de los Latinos o otro culturas?

Español tiene uno de los más grande cantidad de hablantes nativos en mundo. Es un idioma bastante útil.
