i mean if we wanna get into it, 'Joker' was just "King of Comedy" with a batman connection shoehorned in; arguably "Taxi Driver" set a precedent for a lot of the superhero movies that try to be 'grittier' or 'more adult' oriented. Superhero movies are basically just souped up westerns, good guy vs. bad guy, except on a galactic scale instead of some podunk town. Scorsese and the New Cinema of the 70s did a lot to rejuvenate film along more anti-hero lines that blur the distinction between villain and hero that basically all these superhero movies utilize.
