You make good points.
Still, there were moments where it felt the Knicks couldn’t create space for good shots.

Brunson was swarmed all series and while he was able to make difficult shot after difficult shot, he often had to do so by holding the ball for most of the shot clock and rushing to beat the buzzer. Similarly for Towns.

Or maybe I am remembering things wrong.
:hubie:

Na you got it right

NBA folklore love tough shotmaking but a constant diet of hard possessions is the fast train to failure

Plus people either forget or completely ignore the Brunson turnover issues in that Pacer series

Exactly
At some point you have to be realistic here.
None of the teams he left got any better so it not him. Also all the great coaches in the past except for Phil and pop would have been fired after a few seasons in today’s era
They would have fired Sloan, Riley etc.. if I’m UConn’s coach I’m not taking a call from an nba team. It ain’t worth it

This is the greatest collection of talent the Knicks have ever had, so they have to maximize it, and quite frankly, Thibs is not the coach to make that happen.

They’ve reached the end of their journey with him and they need someone else to take them the rest of the way.

You might be right on offense, but there’s only so much more they can improve on that end given how good the offense already is. They need an elite defense to reach the championship level and I don’t see how they can get one with 2 awful defenders being their 2 best players. Not a coincidence that the Knicks worst stretches on defense every game last round were the shifts the two of them played together. They may have hit their ceiling already unless one of those two suddenly gets good on defense.
