Honestly it's so close at the guard-small forward position, I can see any of these cats listed with no issue - Jordan, Pippen, Allen, Kawhi, Payton, Blaylock, Bruce Bowen, Kidd, Artest. I could see LeBron or Kobe too if we're talking about when they're truly engaged defensively. Personally I think Jimmy a Butler is/can be as good of andef ne'er as anyone. Surely I'm leaving some guys out but I tried to keep it from the 90s on.

Tony Allen is probably one of the best on ball defenders of all time but overall? His lack of court awareness and positional discipline hurts him. His effort level is unmatched but I feel if he had more offensive nous he'd be better at reading plays and wouldn't have to rely on sheer exuberance to put himself where he needs to be. He's a consummate gambler and while that works well in the context of what the Griz are on defense it does occasionally make him a liability, especially against teams that pass the ball well.

He's very good but certainly not in my all time best defense.

I dont have a problem with this :manny:
