basically that they didn't get the mainstream recognition that others did. Perfect examples were The Spinners and Freddie Jackson. Both were as successful as their more popular contemporaries The Temptations and Luther Vandross as far as R&B recognition and sales, but neither have the crossover popularity and success. Think Jodeci vs Boyz II Men.

when someone lists their top 20, how many times do you hear too short being mentioned? you always gonna hear about nas jay rakim, biggie, cube, even scarface. i grew up on the east coast and i can tell you people weren't checking for too short like that. i never heard a too short song on the radio. my brother had all his music. thats how i got into him.

If they wasnt checking for him, how did he get all the plaques. Ny didn't fukk with him, but everybody else did.

I watched some of it. Was never into Too Short like that. I guess nikkas liked his content more than anything cause Too Short is as basic as you can get on the mic! I couldnt see rockin wit him when he first dropped in '88 when you had Rakim and Big Daddy Kane spittin!

Short had like 7 or 8 albums that have 500k PLUS sold. His legend is as big as anyone's. He is one of the only few artists that can go anywhere and record with any artist.

I bumped Short, Rakim and BDK in '88. Not uncommon to do that. And Short first dropped in '83.
