i got my macbook retina refurbished... i only saved about 300, but I'm satisfied with my purchase...

I've had it since about christmas time and thus far I'm impressed.... i might not go back to PC...

you talkin like $300 isn't major savings? I saved $350 over what the new one cost fully upgraded, and the only thing I'm missing out on is the I7 (if I wanted to get it) and the force touchpad, which I don't care about. I still got the retina and the full 512GB SSD hard drive.

:what:

Why not tho? I spent, I think around $800 on a Lenovo in 2013 and would laugh hard as hell if it just up and broke tomorrow. I take care of my shyt tho so *shrug*. I expect it to last another 5 years, easily. I had a 2005 HP Pavilion that was going strong well into 2012 before my brother lost it. It's all about how you take care of your shyt, imo.

every windows laptop I have had as my main laptop, the hinges always either got loose or broke. very annoying. and it wasn't like I was grabbing the shyt by the screen and what not and constantly opening and closing it. but that shyt is ridiculous.

what about FF? FF is my goto browser tho. I prefer it over safari. at least on a windows machine.
I alternate between both. FF on mac has a lot of glitches.

Windows laptops are hit or miss for me. I've seen some last for years, some turn into lemons after 8 months.

Other than that, I think OSX shyt on Windows.

I copped the MacBook Air (I think the last one) with i5 and 128gb of storage from Best Buy yesterday because I was traveling and forgot my laptop. I looked at it as a free 14 day trial. Should I keep it? $1059 for computer and magic mouse. My 1 year old ASUS is already ass.
I'd rather spend the extra bread & get a retina macbook pro.

You can go to the apple store and tell them you're a student & you'll save $100. So for $140 more you'll have the better device. And Apple gives you 30 days no restocking fee i think.

I hate firefox crashing all the time because of flash.

man that shyt is ridiculous. fukking laptop bout to catch fire cuz firefox using all my damn resources :pacspit:

I really think my next laptop might be a Mac, but I don't know yet. How is your browser right now? Does youtube run okay?

I just cant stand flash fukking up all the time

All I know is Firefox uses heavy memory and flash crashes from time to time. That's for the birds. Plus I'm not feelin windows 8.1 either if I were to get a windows machine.

You using Safari or Chrome?

I'm gonna use fire fox when my macbook arrives. I never really messed with chrome too much.

I don't really fukk with safari that much, tho it does have all the gesture support. Chrome often eats a lot of memory, but thats my main browser

I was the biggest Firefox supporter on Windows (still am) but Safari is so much better on resources than FF and Chrome. Literally get about an hour more battery using Safari. Had to throw FF to the bushes.

Chrome is faster but uses hella resources...

If your battery fukks up it only costs $79-99 to get it replaced at the apple store :win:

Also, don't use Chrome, use Safari. I didn't even know this shyt had fans on it until i used chrome one day. It makes my mac hot & it drains the battery :scusthov:

:mindblown:I changed my YouTube settings to use HTML5 Video instead of the default Flash Video. Why is Flash still fukking with Firefox??!!

:ohhh: Does Safari run smoother than Chrome & Firefox on Windows? I've always found Safari always took forever to start up.

OK, so I got most everything working now, and I copied my entire music library to the MBP. however, it has decided to rearrange how the files are stored. furthermore, I was able to copy the playlist over. I have like 500 of them, but the files are not able to locate the mp3's obviously, cuz they have been moved around. what the hell am I supposed to do here???

You'll probably need to remove those files from your mac (assuming you have a backup) and start over since it renamed/organized your stuff. You'll have to go into the options of iTunes and tell it not to manage your music then reimport. I can look at my Mac and give you the exact settings if you need me to.

Thank god my company provides me with a new macbook every 2 years. I don't have to come out of pocket for these things, which is a dope benefit.

man, I had like 200GB of audio I was bringing to this MPB. and I think the problem was I had to have itunes reorganize the music to go all in the itunes folder on windows. So I finally did that, and copied it to an external. I just gotta finish copying that from my external to this computer, and I should be good.

the first time I did it, I had the playlist, but the files weren't in the right location. hopefully this works tho.

one thing I dont like about mac, is on windows I have Office 2013, and on this shyt, I have Office 2011. and Office 2013 just completely shyts all over 2011. it's not even close.

Other than that, I should be good. my documents were all in dropbox, so moving them over was a non-issue. I got my photos moved over. Just gotta get this music and playlist, I'll be good.

What do ya'll recommended as a good price for a used but still perfectly durable macbook pro?

I was thinking $600-$650. Too low? I'm looking for something around 2011/2012

man, speaking of the the display, the retina display is TOTALLY worth it. My wife doesn't have retina display, and I thought the talk of the retina was :duck: but its not. I got my resolution maxed out which makes a 13" screen seem like a 20" monitor because of all the real estate I got on here.
