When you wanna go back and play these games a long time from now will you still be able to download them when the PS4 servers go offline? I don't buy digital unless I have to because really you don't own digital content and when the infrastructure to deliver it to you becomes unprofitable to maintain you'll be cut off from it.

Try going back on an original Xbox and accessing any DLC you may have bought today.

I bought Ni No Kuno digitally during that flash sale a few weeks ago.

It was cool and all, but that 22GB download took forever. :noah:

Literally had to do it overnight.

There's nothing to install when you download the game. You download the whole game directly to your hard drive, which is essentially what installs from the disc version. I know I have BF3, 2K and Killzone on disc, and the install sizes for them are all huge (36gb, 46gb, 39gb). So unless they changed it up, then the disc install and digital download are the same.

The problem is the games are pretty big in size. With a 500gb HD, that means space will disappear quick as hell. What sucks, is that even if you have the disc version, it still has to install it to your HD, so the only way you can really save space is to delete the data when you're not playing it, but then you have to install it every time you wanna play, which takes time. If you're gonna play the game, and beat it, then delete the data, you're still using the same amount of space as you would digitally. The only advantage is that you can delete it and either A. sell the game, or B. have it for quick(er) install later if you're gonna go back. With digital, you'd have to download it again, which would be a pain, and obviously you can't sell it.

Personally, I prefer digital. I don't tend to sell my games, and my internet connection is fast enough that my download speeds are pretty quick. Again, the problem comes down to space. I upgraded my PS3 HD, and will no doubt have to do it with the PS4 also. Just gotta find one that's big enough, as I only wanna do it once.

Digital only is worth buying in steam.
Yeah because Steam isn't about console generations and shutting down servers when the hardware gets old and Steam gives you legitimate discounts on stuff. If I'm gonna pay full retail for a game I want to actually own it and have the option of selling it or whatever I want. On a console digital only is worthless.

the best thing about it to me is being able to leave my ps4 in stand by mode at work and have something downloading. or even start the download from my phone at work :obama: but i'd still rather get the disc.

Only going digital for TLOUR, MGSV, and Witcher 3.

Everything else will be on disc so I can trade them when I feel like for other games.

I mostly only buy digital if I get a significant discount on the title, especially on a service that is essentially DRM like Steam. Steam is convenient in that it sorts all your games and lists them for easy access, but if you can't log in to your steam account, you won't be able to access those games. There have been stories of people being banned from Steam and not being able to play the games they purchased. Also, you can't resell your games.

Digital downloads are very convenient, but if you're using a service like Steam, you better be wary of the risks. I hope Gog comes out with that steam-esque client soon since they sell DRM free games.
