U can make a case for mid 90s EMCEEs like Nas/Big/Jay/Wu/AZ but late 90s EMCEEs were becoming borderline garbage. Quite a few cats couldn't even form a complete sentence let alone spit. Late 90s was the begining of the end of lyricism in Hip Hop. Swag would reign supreme.

You've got the late 90's mixed up with the mid 2000s.

DMX,Mos Def,Kweli,Lox,Pun,Eminem,Canibus,Mac,Xzibit all came out around the same time and saw success.

sorry old head, I gotta agree with 28 gramz here. I'd hate to say it, but that's just the way it is for me, I can't rock with 99% of the shyt made before 88...Even though I of course have done my research, and appreciate the OG's of this thing. Of the 88-94 era I like a lot of shyt, but since I'm 25, I fukk with the list gramz put up.

My top 5 LYRICISTS:

1. Nas/Pac
2. Jay
3. Big
4. 3000
5. Pimp C/Killa Cam

Your top 5 is full of cats from the 88-94 besides Cam and he just misses the mark. The Golden Era of 86-96 was greatest period in Hip Hop when it comes to Lyricism as well as records.

X to the Z debut came out in the mid 90s(96). Mos/Kweli/Lox/ were putting out sh1t in the mid 90s.

EM and Canibus are late 90s(97) but they became corn in a heartbeat. DMX was one of the few running things in the late 90s and he really is a product of the early 90s ask K Solo.

Pun was the best from that era!!

The late 90s had some nice EMCEEs but they pale in comparison to the ones who came thru from 86-96!!

Pretty good list. I personally think Canibus should be in the top 25, but I understand how record sales and concepts play a large part. DMX should not be ranked above him in any way shape or form.
