An anonymous senior Hillary Clinton aide didn’t pull any punches in comments made to Politico’s Glenn Thrush, saying that Democratic rival Bernie Sanders got his “ass kicked” in the New York primary and that he needed to tone down his rhetoric.
In the lead up to the primary Sanders abandoned his usual cordial tone and went after Clinton, calling her “not qualified” to be president. Now that he’s lost the primary, the Clinton campaign has been making the case that Sanders should rein in his attacks, arguing that her victory makes it more likely Sanders is just harming the eventual Democratic nominee.
But somewhat ironically, the anonymous aide’s call for civility was pretty uncivil itself. “We kicked his ass tonight,” he told Thrush. “I hope this convinces Bernie to tone it down. If not, fukk him.”
