The nightmare scenario would be if somebody got on a plane and landed in NYC or Beijing. It would be a nightmare.
I'm actually surprised that the outbreak had been this bad. It usually burns itself out quickly because it kills so fast it doesn't have a chance to spread
The disease is in lagos. Lagos has more people than New York City
It can take up to 21 days to show symptoms of Ebola as well. And although you are not considered contagious until you are symptomatic, the fact that someone got on a plane and traveled to a heavily populated city, Lagos, in this case, where the victim collapsed and ended up dying is a terrifying enough.
The international community needs to take this seriously. If it requires border closures, flight restrictions, etc, so be it. A temporary economic loss to already poor countries is an acceptible casualty to contain this, Imagine this virus going global, it would literally shut down the entire world.
If it were to spread to NYC, Beijing or a European country the glogal econmic impact would be massive. And that isn't even taking into account the loss of life.
Shut the borders in Sierra Leon, Guinea and Liberia, let this burn out and hope it has not jumped to other countries....
