Rest In Peace to our fellow Americans who lost their life in this tragedy. Thanks to our meterologists, we have plenty of warning of impending tornadoes. The people of Moore had at least half an hour to an hour to get to safety. However, the children and teachers who died yesterday had no such option. Sadly, they were forced to take shelter in the sheetrocked hallways of buildings shabbily built in the 1960's. No basement. No safe room. A death trap. Perhaps it is time to rethink our priorities and begin re-directing money toward, not only better educating our children, but keeping them safe in school--and not just from crazed gunmen.
I hate to turn this political but shall we check in with Republican Oklahoma Senators Inhofe & Coburn and Representatives Bridenstine/Mullin/Lankford (3 of 5 representatives who voted NO) on how to fund relief for the destruction caused by this catastrophe before any federal relief funding is issued here? These 5 out of 7 Republicans who represent Oklahoma's interests in Congress seemed to think Hurricane Sandy relief was a "No" vote. Rep. Cole and Lucas seemed to realize these terrible things can happen close to home and people need help beyond neighbors, towns, and states so they voted YES. They happen to be Republicans, too, but recognize the need to function in Congress as humans with a moral compass that stretches to the appropriate functions for government for all.
