If you can't leave your keys lying around/hanging up, then you can't leave your wallet/purse out either and if that's how you're living, you're a failure as a parent.
Kids are going to do whatever they want to at the end of the day and there's nothing you can do about it.

I wasn't an angel but my parents could leave stacked wallets/purses out n the thought of pilfering wouldn't even cross my mind.

Not always as siblings can turn out completely different under the same household, but it doesn't mean that the parents were failures.
I say that based on my own set of circumstances as I was well aware of right and wrong. Unfortunately, one of my other siblings didn't get that regardless of how much my parents tried to instill it in them.
