I know Toure gets a bad rep sometimes but I feel his perspective on this might be valid. Yall check it out

He has tons of cool videos on his channel including one about Snoop when he was a pimp, one about losing a card game to Jay-Z, another playing basketball with Prince and why Kanye says racist things. At this point I'm binging them lol

To be fair. He came off like an a$$hole as well. “I don’t do auditions..” nikka what u mean? Ur a musician and there’s A list actors that still have to audition for certain roles. The audition is not about the talent it’s about how well u gel with the artist and if we have a good vibe together.

This here.

Glasper was tired of her sh*t. He's one of the few successful OG's who's willing to be honest about that weirdo. Clef has put her on blast too. He had some funny interviews accusing Lauryn of trying to steal credits and pretend to be a "genius".

I didn't watch the Toure clip yet, but bro was a certified Hip Hop head in the 90's. At one point, legends would request to only speak with him and not other people. Dude was highly respected.

She’s the most overrated artist of the last 28 years

1 great album with nothing else to show for it except for tardiness to her shows and weird performances

I really hate saying it, but it's true.

Around '94, we started seeing her potential to seriously be one of the best artists ever. But she didn't give us much away from the one album and the quick 16's on the Fugees' projects.

With the kinda praise she gets, if you only have one actual album in 30 years, and you're not dead, you're a hack, to me, lol.

I disagree. Asking an established, signed jazz bandleader to audition isn't common at all. You wouldn't ask Miles Davis to audition lol. You'd ask if he wants to collaborate with you and either negotiate from there or hang out and check the vibes/chemistry. Glasper isn't some random session pianist.

Also I disagree on the a$$hole part. He's a jazz musician....that makes him one of the most prepared, elite musicians on the planet...and ensures he is more talented (musically) than 98%+ of artists in other genres. It's why Miles Davis and Quincy Jones talked shyt about the Beatles and virtually every rock band. These guys can write/read music, can play virtually anything they hear by ear, understand all the music theory you can throw at them, and can improvise anything on the spot. It's just another level of talent and when those guys talk shyt I just stand back and let them do their thing lol.
