That's what the FDA is supposed to be doing but their budget has only shrank over the years.
The companies don't want government getting in the way of their profits. If you regulate them they won't be able to promise consistent growth to their shareholders because they can have a year where they had to pay fines and then spend money hiring more people and on more equipment.

Yup. Chlorinated chicken, steroid and antibiotic pumped beef, corn sprayed with atrazine, fish raised in filthy fish farms, cereals with a rack of GMOs, etc.
Moving to another country would probably add years to your life just off the strength of the food you’re ingesting.
