SEAL is in my top 10 singers.
James earl jones has always been what

One of my favorite artists...

Check out this song....speaking that real shyt :wow:

“If he preys only on his neighbors
Brothers, sisters and friends
We'll consider it a favor
We'll consider justice done
But if he comes for you or me
And we can place a gun in his hand
Bang bang bang
We'll shoot him dead”

I dont think Tracy Chapman was rejected by the black community so much as she was rejected by the music community as a whole. Im sure she was seen as "unmarketable" despite her talent.

A BLACK female artist who has no sex appeal for men and performs acoustic guitar music with an emphasis on humble lyrics over flash and controversy. She was so far removed from the music and pop culture sensibilities of the 90s its no wonder she got drowned out and rejected by radio, MTV, and even BET which preferred sexy flexy R&B music and gangster rap at this time.

The fact she even managed to strike a record deal is a testament to her musical talent.

Chapman is a true folk artist and folk artists are suppose to reject overt commercialism of their music. I doubt she herself wanted the clout and the attention.

Folks gotta understand even 2pac did it for the money. Its very rare you get true music artists who are in it for the art, and she was one of them. I wish the black community would acknowledge her more. Can we at least get an Unsung special? She truly is a forgotten genius of our musical community.

Someone made a thread trying to shyt on guitar players..
People like Tracy are very much needed in these times of Future and Drake.

I also wonder what people over 35 are listening to, because it's certainly not these trap rappers. Tracy should have a solid older Black fan base.

Sorry [Baby Can I Hold You]
Fast Car

are all classics to this day.

She just kind of disappeared.

The overwhelming majority of Black Americans belonging to some sort of religion and Tracy being an atheist and open lesbian might have something to do with it

Some of her songs do go hard.

Black Community never really fukked with Terrence Trend D'arby neither breh, both are amazing black artist.
Wrong. That had nothing to do with it.
We fukked with TTD on that first album. After that second, not many people fukked with him.
Tracy made white sounding, albiet quality, music.
There are Black artists who can do the folk thing but still make it soulful and Black as hell.
The late great Bill Withers is a prime example of that.
Just looking at Tracy, you can tell she was socialized around cacs growing up
Coming of age in the "racism is over" early to mid 80s and going to school with cacs informed her sound.
She's very talented but I bet she goes days, maybe weeks on end without seeing Black ppl.
I'd bet you what I have in my pocket that her lady is white as this background I'm typing on.
