Trae Young is eligible for a contract extension with the Atlanta Hawks this offseason, which is something executives across the NBA are paying attention to ahead of his potential free agency in 2026. Young played a key role in the Hawks' offseason and also was at Vegas Summer League. Young can sign for up to $222 million over four seasons.

"Executives in Las Vegas are closely watching and monitoring the future and status of Atlanta's Trae Young," said Shams Charania on Friday's episode of NBA Today. "He has two years left on his deal this upcoming season, but he has a player option in 2026. He can be a free agent next summer. It's going to be a much more flush market in free agency coming u

And listen, this is an Atlanta Hawks team that has made a ton of moves this offseason. Got Kristaps Porzingis. They can go several different directions with this team. They have a rising young team. They have guys like Jalen Johnson, Zachary Risacher. But the Hawks want to see how this team looks. Both Trae Young and Kristaps Porzingis are extension eligible.

"But Trae Young, by all accounts, I'm told, is locked in. He's excited about this team. He really believes this team is as close to that team several years ago they made it to the conference finals in the East. He's excited, but I do know Trae Young a little bit, and I know once he gets into the season, he wants to focus on that season. So, if there is no extension, we're into the regular season, I would not be surprised if he just waits until the 2026 summer before any decisions on his future."

I’ve said it a few times but they need to trade him. They don’t have a guy who is a superstar where Trae can be your #2/#3.

They’re putting themselves in position to exceed the expectations next season . Which in turn forces them to accelerate the “re build” around the younger players. This never works

He’s too small & his game isn’t impactful enough to build around

Brunson is a bully
Brunson is a ball hog. But he’s a championship level leader just like Trae is. That hawks team had no business in the ecf. Build it right and he can deliver. Their team now will show who is right here.

From a business perspective Trae probably generates a lot of revenue for the Hawks. Trading him will lead to a dip in ticket sales and attendance.

Using this as your argument tells me you’re stuck in the past & misinformed. Trae isn’t that guy

You prob still think he’s the next Curry :pachaha:

Edit:Just remembered you were championing Kuminga

Not I’m not even a Trae fan like that, I just have seen enough believe he’s a winning player. He has never had a great or even good roster around him, it’s stupid how y’all judge dudes who have to play with garbage. He’s not Bradley Beal. You would have said the same thing about Hali before he turned taliban. Y’all don’t value pure point guards.

I think Trae can be a piece on a winning team just not the main piece. You comparing him to Hali is wild tho. Hali is damn near 6’6 & can shoot along with his elite passing

Trae is 6’1, a mid shooter & nowhere near the passer. You’re not watching the games you’re going off his rep which is outdated
