See this is a bad faith argument. How would environmental protections have stopped a bad roller bearing truck from causing this accident? What does he mean by making railways more modern and safe? At the state level? :gucci: That's not the state's job, that sort of thing is done on the Federal level. I hate when people get on Twitter/social media and use a disaster on which to anchor their trash ass hot takes. He's not even mad at the right people.

Barely anyone talking about this shyt.

A whole ass town in America got gassed WW1 Trench warfare style with massive ecological repercussions stirring. Fauna and flora spotted dead, residents functionally homeless. Reporters getting hushed, and the corporation at fault isn't doing much other than throwing an insulting pittance ($25k for the whole town, basically $5 per resident).

This is true from what I read some Obama era regulations actually got rolled back that the Biden administration doesn't appear to be interested in bringing back.

LOL to be fair this was just another in a long line of Norfolk Southern and CSX accidents. It was reported on but more as a blurb more than anything. Initially it seemed like it was going to be business as usual; another monster 2 mile long train derails somewhere in the Ohio Valley/East Coast and only be discussed by boomer railfans and employees in various FB groups. Then the chemical leaks happened and the media was caught a bit flatfooted and slow to catch up to the story. I will say though that these sort of stories don't hit with the general public anymore; not enough (or any) death, no politics unless it's forced into the narrative and a small town no one cares about. That's what happens with news as infotainment.
