Kinda long but ehh-
So I was discussing work with some friends and we got on the topic of older workers being strategically pushed out of their positions. It's crazy seeing how companies don't value their experienced workers. We were noticing how once workers got to be about mid-forties the companies would hire these younger people, in a different position, then have the senior workers train them under the guise of showing them the ropes.

Next thing you know, the older workers job titles changed and their trainees now had their job. The older workers were given less and less responsibility until they were phased out.

Which is messed up because these people are sharp and they know the ins and outs of the business. Not to mention are loyal to the company. Then you have these recent grad who come in and they have zero experience or knowledge of what to do and undercut their pay.

And don't let it be women, I can't tell how many times I've seen and heard of project assistants, administrative assistants, and what not being traded in for younger model.

I guess my friends and all further realized that you have to be on your game and think about yourself. Screw being loyal to a company and make sure you have a plan. We may be young now, but it's not going to be like that forever.

Just had this on my mind. Anyone seen similar?

Oh yeah and before anyone comes in talking abut young people need their turn, let's not forget just because these people are older doesn't mean their bills stop.

These people have older children such as teens or young adults they are helping put through school and then their own bills on top. Retirement age is supposed to be 65. Yet these companies are pushing them out well before then and you know ain't no companies trying to hirer "older" workers. At least not any good paying ones.

I wish this was happening at this other place I work at. Seriously, nothing but seniors in there with cushy jobs.

If young people with degrees are wondering where the jobs at, these old fukks are sitting in them. Can't even use excel I can't begin to tell you how many times they ask for my 'expertise' in excel which was learnt on the job, if they devoted just 15 minutes in troubleshooting instead of irritating me, they'd get to know it better.

But they don't give a fukk. They need to start evaluating these people's performance more, if they don't know excel, word or outlook. Then :camby:

I guarantee you any 23 year old can navigate themselves well.

It's called a retirement savings plan.

Caught this at 29. Started working for dolo at 33.
Companies don't care about your bills (or life for that matter). With age and "experience " comes knowledge. Knowledge of how things are done, how much YOURE WORTH. This can be detrimental to a company's bottom line. It's more cost effective for them to hire a "young dummy" thank keep an old wise man. Young, vigorous and naive trumps old and wise any day.
Few companies WANT to pay for retirement. If they can get those prime years out of u and wash their hands, that's ideal.

Nah man it's more like these younger people come in not knowing how to use excel, publisher, how to do contracts, etc. It's the seniors who have to hold their hand and teach them. And these jobs aren't jobs where seniority matters that much, it's not school teachers or whatnot.

Yep they don't want to pay that retirement or what thes people are worth. As redundant and difficult as It is it's best to work for yourself or find another way because these companies will chew you up and spit you out. I never understood being loyal to a place that isn't your own.

That's the advantage they have when hiring younger workers. They don't "know" their worth AND the don't have the ambition to leave and start on their own yet. It's only AFTER the kids, the marriage, the debt etc. By then it's like ":yeshrug:mine as well be still til I retire"
Company sitting there like :usure: -random drug test tomorrow, u up first
