This is one of these things in life that congress and the people of America should reject on the principle of how secret it is and made with no oversight.

They say TPP promotes censorship and restrictions on internet data flow

Its true this should be rejected just off the fact that nobody knows whats in the deal

Yep. Probably hurts working conditions for Vietnamese and other sweatshop economies involved as well. Not to mention turning a blind eye to Malaysian slavery.

He really has a very strong point in opposing this and any free trade agreement. This will only further the decline of American jobs under the guise of globalization.

He absolutely does. Really not a politically viable counter argument to his point either. Hard to make the case that its net positive for you to have a shyttier job because you get to buy $2 milk at Walmart

Its a net positive breh, look at the effect of the steel tariffs at the beginning of the decade... Im on mobile but i have linked to it before. This happens because artificially increasing the number of jobs never works. Try to explain the difference in economic impact between implementing a tarrif or protectionary measures likr quotas and implementing a ban on machines so humans have more jobs.

Both create more local jobs at the expense of everything else.

This is one of these things in life that congress and the people of America should reject on the principle of how secret it is and made with no oversight.

:whoo:

Exhibit A was released by WikiLeaks last week: the latest draft of the "intellectual property" chapter of the agreement, one of 24 (out of 29) chapters that do not have to do with trade. This chapter has provisions that will make it easier for pharmaceutical companies to get patents, including in developing countries; have these patents for more years; and extend the ability of these companies to limit access to the scientific data that is necessary for other researchers to develop new medicines. And the United States is even pushing for provisions that would allow surgical procedures to be patented – provisions that may be currently against US law.

All of these measures will help raise the price of medicines and health care, which will strain public health systems and price some people out of the market for important medicines. It is interesting to see how much worse the TPP is than the WTO's Trips (Trade-Related Aspects of International Property Rights). This, too, was a massive rip-off of consumers and patients throughout the world, but after years of struggle by health advocates and public interest groups, some of its worst features were attenuated, and further consolidation of pharmaceutical companies' interests were blocked.
