What's your point? The DSM used to label homosexuality as a mental disorder too. There's plenty of hard scientific evidence to the contrary. The same can be said of gender identity.

Trans people face a lot of discrimination and hatred...their suicide rate can be directly tied to that among other ways in which society tells them they aren't shyt. It's a sad situation.

No there is isn't. Homosexuality was taken out of the DSM for political reasons, not because of any scientific evidence.

I think its a more complex than boy wanting to be girl or vice versa. Most of the nuances I neither know or care about. Our research on this is extremely limited.
But i would say on average, a 100% 'biological' man thinking he's a 'woman in a mans body' is probably bullsht, given they have nothing to compare against.

Sexual orientation is not a choice. I didn't choose to be straight, gay people didn't choose to be gay.

But it's an insensitive way to describe people in which I have no idea how they feel or how it effects their life.

So I'm ok with not referring to it that way if it makes them feel more comfortable

That sucks, but I wouldn't be consistent in my worldview if I didn't chalk that up personal accountability.

I have a problem with stating that there's "hard scientific evidence" of transgenderism not being a mental disorder. If so, it would have been removed from the DSM.

There have been two major revisions to the DSM since homosexuality as a mental disorder was re-evaluated by psychiatrists, and while the name for trangenderism has been modified, its classification remains the same.

I don't want to appear insensitive to trans people, but suicide rates still remain high, even after ruling out factors of mistreatment, socioeconomic standing, and having healthy relationships.

To be fair psychiatry isn't even a hard science so...

I can certainly acknowledge that; that's actually an important part of my point.

Sure it's distressing to them, I'm not saying that trans people are faking it or their feelings aren't legitimate.

But the distress caused by feeling like you're in the wrong body does not disprove the notion that your feelings may be delusional.
