Couchsurfing is a site/app lets you stay at someone's place for free.

https://www.couchsurfing.com

Some people let you stay in their room or will have an entire condo for you. I've noticed that some of the same hosts also rent out the same room on airbnb. Most people won't accept you if you have no references and aren't verified. If you are thinking about getting a host then to be safe, make sure they are verified and have references. Always read the references reviews and cross check the references themselves. The easiest way to get references is not to go to a host, but to go to an event. You can find events for your own city or other cities by searching in the events section. You can also host your own.

I set up an event for San Antonio, TX once and 6 people signed up but I cancelled due to the weather. There's an event I want to go that has 200 people attending. I also saw that the host requires at least 5 references if you want to stay at their place before/after the event. It's hard getting references if you aren't willing to travel. I have one reference from a local nurse I met at a bakery who met her hubby when she went couchsurfing in China. I am getting more references soon in Nashville at an event and by a host. I might update this thread with a review of my first host.

I remember a poster talking about it, @The Nigerian if I'm not mistaken.

I think I'll stick with Airbnb
Before you book a room with Airbnb, ask them if they also use couchsurfing, because some of the hosts that also rent out their room with airbnb will also rent that same room for free. Why pay when you can get it for free?

If I don't have the references, I'll just pay whatever their asking and build like that

I might try it out the next time I travel outside of work. I'm tired of hotels :mjcry:

I've never stayed with anybody on couch surfing, but I've let people stay with me. It was a cool experience, met a few cool dudes, a few cool girls, and even hit one of the girls.

I also used it when I went to South Africa, I met a guy on there that took me to different clubs.

i've done this before. Four times. Twice couchsurfing...twice hosting. Since I've got some time...I'll talk about it.

1st time couchsurfing: Stayed with this Jewish chick from my hometown (Pittsburgh). She was cool. It was in Brooklyn in Williamsburg on N. 5th street.
2nd time couchsurfing: stayed with this chick that I thought was cute in West Virginia. It was actually a fun trip. Went swimming in a creek. Drove around to some dead malls. Played basketball. ME and her almost f*cked but it didn't happen. Alot of people use CS for no strings attached sex.

1st time hosting: Had this chick from St petersburg stay with me in Brooklyn. She was cool...really enjoyed her company.
2nd time (and final) hosting: This crazy Japanese & Colombian chick stayed with us at my old apartment in bushwick...at first she was cool, but then she started getting real clingy and shyt. Here's what did it though. My roommate had some LSD in the fridge and she was like...hey we should take some! Me, knowing how strong that shyt was, declined. She took alot of it and was tripping like crazy and the number one thing I hate is babysitting someone when theyre tripping and I'm not. It was beyond annoying and she kept my roommates up tossing and turning and spitting gibberish.

Here's the juicy part: the next day, after that whole debacle, we had a meeting with all of our peeps in the apartment and made the decision that she had to go for disrespecting our apartment, stealing food, and a whole bunch of stuff. I told he she had to go after she was yelling at my one roomate. Her response? fukk no. At that point, I'm like...she's got to go...whether by force or I'm calling the cops to say she's trespassing and has to leave. She was staying in my roommates room and locked the door...and actually had the nerve to call the cops on US! As if we were threatening her and we weren't the ones that asked her to leave. So she leaves the room for five seconds and me and my other roomate just grab her and drag her out the door. She's holding onto the wall and hitting us...eventually I just said fukk it...picked her up off her feet, physically took her outside the apartment and locked the door behind her immediately. I even grabbed her suitcase and bags and threw it out there too.

The cops came later and we told them what happened...basically she had no where to stay and I didn't give a fukk. It was a nightmare scenario and a great example of when couchsurfing goes wrong. I deleted my account shortly afterwards after giving her profile one (of many) negative ratings/reviews and told people explicitly not to host this person ever again.

See that Japanese/Colombian shyt is what I envision happening off rip. Someone getting into your house and not wanting to leave. Like, mother fukkers have lost their homes from people squatting like that. I'm too old for that nonsense.

I might have done it before I got married tho :youngsabo:
