When I say 'empower' I use it in the context of "investing in power, legal power or official authority"

Just giving you the historical context for where that term came from..it was a way white historians undermined the black power movement in the black freedom struggle...their way of softening it because they were afraid of the implications of "power."

I cant see much wrong or 'soft' with investing in legal power and official authority. Something we still completely lack today

But I take into account what you're saying

all the publicity Jay, Diddy, Russell Simmons, Al Sharpton etc got from this, and they couldnt break dude off with cash? a trust fund, donations etc?

For real. How do these people not pay for the expenses for Trayvon's father? He shouldn't even be working anymore and have his mortgage paid off.

I wasn't bytching about it in the first place. U were one of the c00n/cacs that didn't acknowledge how a murderer can cake 6 figures off of killing a child. Just leveling the playing field Mr c00n/and or CAC

nikkaz want to see that family crumble when Zimmerman gets fatter and still do dumb shyt. c00ns and CACs think that a black man that lost his son should still work to death.

Whats so disgusting? She was prolly just showing love to a man who has been through a lot. Papa Martin sure didnt seem too upset about a pretty young girl giving him some attention. Y'all always so damn angry.

BTW, to all the cats in the thread: The martin family received a 7 figure settlement from the homeowners association at the complex Trayvon was murdered at, plus Trayvon merchandise sold very well. Either they arent spending this money, and/or Mr. Martin decided just to go back to work to stay busy. Perhaps both....but w/o knowing their financial situation, I would guess both parents are millionaires, or at least something close to that.

Cmon, there's something a lil seedy about taking a pic like that with a man who's famous for losing a son. She looks like she's hugged up with Lebron or some shyt. She didn't need to take the pic and post it online if she was just "showing love". Plus he looks uncomfortable as hell.

But I'd still smash :noah:

What exactly has Trayvon's Dad done to earn the work-free living some of you are talking about? :dahell:

R.I.P. to young Mr. Martin and God bless his parents, but why does anyone owe his Dad anything?

I'll defend Sharpton cause he was on the front lines for the family and he's one of the drivers behind the Your Life Matters campaign which came about in the wake of Trayvon's murder. Some things in life you cant put a price tag on and I believe his support for the Martins is one of those things. As for Jigger, Diddy, Simmons, etc. the case did not gain notoriety because of them, not saying they should be responsible for giving money to the family but lets not sit here and act like they made this story global

I dont put it on one person to "save the race", however it would be nice if these mega millionaires would do more than just put a photo on instagram. It dont even have to come out their own pocket but if they would be a face of a movement to raise funds and awareness it would go a long way. But they so consumed by the dollar they just dont give a fukk. Im not talking about Sharpton BTW
