That’s fair. But not getting it in a lump sum and stretched out over 18 years should make it more difficult. Let’s say you’re stupid early on and blow your rookie money. Damn after year 5, 6, 7, 8, etc at some point something should click to reverse your course of action.

Like Malik Beasley? or Evander Kane? or Antonio Cromartie?

Should have moved to Uganda
My monthly expenses are 1,200 usd and I'm living like a kang

I’m curious. At one point you stated you were trying to get your wife’s paperwork in order so yall can move to Canada.

Yet you consistently post how much you like living in Uganda.

So why are yall trying to move to Canada?

Yeah just got my baby Canadian citizenship by descent. Dual citizen at two months :blessed: and my wife should get her pr very shortly.

I love Uganda but I'm only here on a non working visa so it's limited in terms of what I can do. Thankfully I can work remotely off grid but it's not a permanent solution .

Like I can't even buy land as a foreigner

Need to build some more in Canada and then we will return back to Uganda permanently by then I should have my Ugandan citizenship which will allow me to do more moves

$3 million a year after taxes for 18 straight years. That much time there should be wisdom and learning at some point.

Ariza been in the league since he was 19 and last played at age 36 in 2021. So all his 20’s and half his 30’s.

And if he were truly broke he can go play overseas.
The first thing we have to understand is that these dudes are food...agents, money managers, shady investment ideas, broads, family and friends. All things most of use either dont have to deal with or at least not to the same level.

The other thing most of us dont understand is that the more money you make the deeper the hole you are allowed to dig. So lets say you got $3 mil as a rookie. But you lived like you got $6 mil. And they will let yo ass because you are in the NBA. So now you $3 mil in the hole. Again since you in the league, you can easily get a loan...but what them rates looking like? Will a 19 yr old even check, let alone understand?

So now you still spending and only getting deeper in the hole that folks will let you dig for the same reason you keep diggin it...you in the league and more money is coming. For most guys the end is pretty abrupt. So you still got all these expenses and you still aint got out the hole and now the money has stopped.

And not enough is said about these money managers. You had guys like KG and Duncan straight have money stolen from them by cats they trusted when they trying to do the smart thing with their money.

insane. Jordan Poole's money from his 2nd contract eclipsed Ariza's career earnings :picard:

No amount of money is too great to blow through if you living like you got twice as much...especially when you are paying for mutiple children to live the same lifestyle as you.

And you dont get all $58 mil in a lump sum. A lot of these dudes dig holes that they have to keep digging themselves out of...by digging more holes.

Facts and that $58M is before agents, lawyers, accountants, NBA pension contributions, etc. In interviews JJ Reddikk and Lou Williams said they end up with about 40% of their salaries.

I dont get it though. Like even if you bought a 10 mill house. Bought some expensive cars. Some jewelry, luxury clothes.

Thats like 13 million. 58 - 13 = 45.

And you bought your family (parents, couple siblings + cousins) houses. And got close friends nice apartments. Say thats another 10 mil. Now you got 35 m.

Let's say you spend 10k a month on food + clothing cuz you got it like that. 10 × 12 = 120k a year. lets say you give away 150k a year to family and close friends for frivolous things. And spend another 100k on parties, strippers, jewelry, etc.

That's 370k a year

Over 15 years.... that's 5.5 million.

So that's still 29m left over.

How are you going broke? Thats not being frugal at all and you still got many millions left over.

This is what im saying. What else are you buying?

Luxury cars, nice big homes, expensive diet + restaurant bills, jewelry, etc. Literally wont be enough to burn through $60 mil.

Did he buy a mega mansion or mini yacht that ate his money?

Even then those things don't depreciate that badly that you cant resell them and recoup most of the money (let alone profit).
That 10 million dollar house you mentioned, it doesn't stop with that. How much taxes every year are you paying on that house, how much are you paying for landscaping, utilities every month, home owners insurance. If you buy your family houses, you more than likely have to pay that upkeep as well

Don't quote me on this but it feels like black athletes are way more likely to go broke than their white equivalents due to both social and societal pressures their counterparts don't have to deal with it.

If they try to live a more lowkey, modest and borderline frugal lifestyle like say Kirk Cousins or Andrew Luck, they're going to get clowned like Russell Wilson used to. And the cornball, boring, weird, c00n, whiteboy etc labels start getting thrown towards them.

These guys can leverage the NBPA for job assistance, whether it be coaching, broadcasting/podcasting, business, etc.

There are 40+ year old people with the maturity and mindsets of people in their 20s. Why would you assume NBA player’s maturity and mindsets would improve with age? Especially while they’re making millions of dollars from playing a sport?
