I think they have tried and he has told them to do so. Remember he signed a two year deal (movie schedule dates pending on when he could return after Spring 2014) and he left after that Payback PPV in June 2014. Since then, he's been pretty candid about his time whenever asked in interviews. I think he said the only way he'd come back is if he could only do live shows because the WWE writers didn't know shyt. He also got at Stephanie on Twitter once:
