when taker was facing yoko, he was the man, everybody around that time saw that nikka as unbeatable, i mean it was only a short time before he was clearly bret/shawn/diesel that they were going with but during that yoko fued, taker was the guy
When exactly was this though and for how long?

Yep I always made this argument back then he was never the ringmaster he always got screwed out of winning titles clean until i think mania 13, the whole yoko burying him in a casket due to every heel coming out to make him lose and him dissapearing for months was evidence of this.

Its almost like they didn't want to over expose him because they knew his persona would over power Michaels and Bret ultimately but then he just had the bad luck of playing second fiddle to Shawn Bret and then Rock and Austin and never got his own era

I was kind of mad when Austin beat Taker clean at Highway to Hell 98 which signified attitude era wouldn't be his era

03-05 era is very weird, you had a number of top guys but you can't really say it was one dudes era.

The stoop with dat dope fanny padding
We really have to clarify what makes them the guy and back it up

Taker was on and off, stepped in at certain points but never really had a super long run as the guy, he was always more of a special attraction

Triple H had a run on top as a face but it failed and he turned back heel

When the Yoko match happened and it took 20 people to take him down, that was his peak to me

Taker was never the face...

Bret, Shawn, Austin, Rock, Cena, Lesnar [point guards]

Undertaker was always the shooting guard

Now there was times when the face played 2nd fiddle to Undertaker. The only time you could say Undertaker was aligned at the top was during the Invasion because he was the leader of the locker room. It was him hyping the WWF up and giving the speeches. But the spotlight was always on Austin and the Rock

HHH is a weird one, because during the Ruthless Aggression they were going through a transition period of trying to figure out who was gonna be the top guy, and it kinda messed up the idea once they brought in the World Heavyweight title because then it was HHH as the face of Raw and Lesnar as the face of Smackdown

The thing with Taker is I agree with some of the comments stating during the New Generation Era he was the Face for a period of time.

Besides that, he played an imporant role as being the backbone/ second fiddle/go to guy for the WWE through all of their transitions.

Im pretty sure he never even cared, he is someone that truly knows whats right for business. There have even been times where he was more over than the "face of the company", as well as some other guys throughout history.
