They've never rolled Taker out there as the face of the company. He's been extremely popular for a long time. High on the card a lot. But he's never had an era. The way we remember the Hogan era. The Bret/Shawn era. The Austin/Rock era. And then the Cena era.

03-05 era is very weird, you had a number of top guys but you can't really say it was one dudes era.
This quote below pretty much sums it up.

To attempt to claim in between Rock and Cena there was another face with a run that can be put up amongst these names and fit in is straight :duck:

During the Rock/Austin era there was no other star in their era that was going to overtake the both of them as the face of the company, that's not a knock it's just facts, their star power and connection with the fans was second to none

Taker is my favorite wrestler but this thread has a point :sadcam:

Now that think about it, was dude even ever the face of Smackdown :sadcam:

Undertaker's gimmick makes it impossible for him to be the face of the company

Triple H was the face of the company from '03 through '05 and sucked at it

He could have been the face of the company when he was the American bad ass...

By the wrestlemania's "who was the guy"

1-9 Hogan
10-12 Bret Hart
12-14 HBK
14-16 Austin
16-18 The Rock
19-20 Lesnar
20-21 This is where there was really no guy. You could list a couple people here and you wouldn't really be wrong. They had a deep roster of guys and girls that carried them at this point. This is where they probably panicked as well and said we need to get a guy asap. That leads to them forcing Cena on everybody
21-Current John Cena

There is lot's of guys that were "co-stars" during this time that held the strap but they were not the face of the company.

They're both legends but when you think of distinct eras in the E's history, there's the Sammartino era, the Hogan era, the Austin/Rock era, and now the Cena era. But if you leave it to :smughhh:, he'll definitely have his own era, because it's what's best for business

Taker was never the MAIN face of the company, but for periods of time he was a recognizable face during:

1. When he was first doing his "American Bad Ass" gimmick he was one of the faces right below Rock and Austin, hell if you ask most people what was their favorite version of Taker they will usually say "American Bad Ass"

2. During that time when Cena was really started to get that split reaction hatred from the crowd Taker was a face with Batista expecially when both of them was feuding for the World Heavyweight Title.

Nah they never were the top guy, they kind of look like what Andre's position in the 70s and early 80s especially Taker. They were draws and cool but it they were obviously always the second, third, even fourth guy. Lesnar was the face of the company after Rock lost to him and it took WWE a whole year to build Cena and Batista into one after they failed at making Orton one.

Since Vince bought the company it goes like this Backlund/Hogan/Hart/Michaels/Austin/Rock/Lesnar/Cena. You might be able to add Batista in there but he failed once he started getting injured on a regular basis.
