Bret was definitely the face of the New Generation era over Taker :manny:

Someone said it before but Taker's gimmick was the thing that kept him from being the 'face' of any era

Just like bruddas

In 1997, Taker was kind of the guy post Mania 13 but they went back to Bret by Summerslam

Cripple H was never carrying the whole card. Ever. Lesnar was the investment after 2002 until he quit. Then Eddie got ultra hot.

when taker was facing yoko, he was the man, everybody around that time saw that nikka as unbeatable, i mean it was only a short time before he was clearly bret/shawn/diesel that they were going with but during that yoko fued, taker was the guy

You're talking 1993 and 94...let's see....Yoko got the belt from Hogan at King of the Ring..he went over Taker Rumble 94..took like 15 people to beat him. I think Taker hadn't lost in like 2 years. I thought he was gonna win. I was shocked he lost. Bret was pushed as the top guy again by WM X. Now..Fans NEVER chose Bret over Taker but u can tell with the marketing they were backing Bret with no Hogan around and apparently turning on Luger too.

We really have to clarify what makes them the guy and back it up

Taker was on and off, stepped in at certain points but never really had a super long run as the guy, he was always more of a special attraction

Triple H had a run on top as a face but it failed and he turned back heel

Cripple H was a nobody from 1995-1998...DX turned face after blaming Michaels. He was apart of a hot mid card act..got injured after the fans chose Rock over him at Summerslam 98. He came back and was the Rock's bytch in several situations. He got pushed in 99 as heel but Austin kept whooping his ass. Vincent even sent over him. He beat Show in Jan 2000 but Rock was the focus of all of their shows, new heels, merchandise, X box releases..everything.
He came back in 2002 as face and flopped..got punked by Hogan, Rock, and Taker from April 2002 until he turned heel for Summerslam.

He's just a failure. Always needs a faction. Always needs an excuse..tries to make his character seem smarter and crafter than everybody. That shyt didn't draw. Rock put over Lesnar and the rest was history.

HHH has been the guy on multiple occasions. Business dropped when it happened though. Especially in 2002-2003

i been watchin old episodes of raw. I have to say towards the end of 1999 Triple H (Heel) was definitely the top dog and focal point of the shows while he was champ. Austin injured...just making cameos. Taker nowhere to be found. Kane being Xpac's homie. Rock teaming with Mick Foley. These episodes be boring as fukk tho. SMH I had forgot all about them bringing The British Bulldog back. And "My Time" has been stuck in my head for weeks.
Nobody was paying to see Cripple H face Vince at Armageddon...lol.
