History hasn’t looked kindly upon Mania 2000 but the shyt felt like a huge deal at the time. Even with the shaky build up to the main event. Rock/Hunter would’ve been a much better main event but we might not’ve got the legendary Backlash main event.

It could be but we also gotta consider that WM plans can start very early, and I don't doubt that at some point HHH vs Rock in a singles match at Mania was considered (along with other options).
