Not true. Ascap pays out quarterly so you'll get 4 checks a year. However they pay out 6-7 months after that quarter. So this check was his royalties from the first quarter of 2019. So he'll get the check for the 2nd quarter of this year in December or January.

EDIT: actually I think it's 8 checks a year. You get a check for the publishing portion and you get a check for the writer's portion

I got a performance royalty check for like 4,700 today so that 17,000 doesn’t seem like a lot.. although it’s heavily taxed.

But if his show money and merch sales provide other streams, i guess things can be comfortable for the brother.

I edited my post. The October check is the writer's check. In September he likely got a publishing check too. But yeah with his show money and merch he's probably seeing a quarter million or so a year, maybe more.
