I stuck with Dexter till the end so I'll do the same with this show.
That being said this first ep was not a good first step at all.
Tara isn't dead...main cast member + they didn't show her die = she aint dead.
So that is strike one because killing Tara right off the bat would have shown a certain ballsiness that would make tuning in worth it just to see which of the lead cast would die next.
The whole everybody hates Sookie thing seems like a waste of time. Unless Sookie gave all the vampires super-syphilis then blaming her for the current situation seems stupid.
Same with Pam search for Eric. If there was another season on deck then the search for Eric storyline might be OK but this is it for this show so there really isn't time for indulgent side storylines. All the characters need to be involved in the primary show ending arc ASAP and skip over all the side stuff.
Honestly the only characters worth watching last night were Jason and Andy.

they can't win cause we already know what's about to happengood 1st episode
people been asking for atleast 5 seasons for Tara to be killed and they finally get it but still complain that nothing happened this episode. True Blood can't win
have a main character since episode 1, die off camera... yea fukking right
then have her mom say, she can feel her, she ain't dead... but ignore that
then have her maker not notice she's dead.. cause she would immediately feel it like she would if eric was dead
so let me go ahead and put my prediction in now.... tara is alive and kidnapped.. her mom will "hear" from her but no one will believe her... then sookie will know she's telling the truth by reading her thoughts... then tara will pop up last minute to save somebody
They killed an integral character like Tara off
, without showing her getting staked on-screen
Why is her critter moms still alive
Throw that sanctimonious hag in the bushes
They got my favorite character: Pam, globetrotting around the world for Eric
And, I can't remember the rest that happen
, cuz I' spent most of the time falling in an out of 
I'm glad this season's the final nail in the coffin for True Blood

I don't think Tara is dead cause Pam would have noticed it but if she does then it's pretty much stupid and should have let her died when she got brain blew off in Season 5.

Ep was trash...even by recent True Blood standards. Wasn't even one of those good setup eps where you're excited to see how the rest of the season plays out.

I think it’s great. I think somebody had to go. To have a main character right off the bat go, that’s gonna bring everybody into the show. It’s like, “Okay, and the show has started.” It’s kind of like the catalyst for everything else that’s gonna probably happen—I don’t know what’s gonna happen, because I didn’t read anything else because I want to be surprised. I think it’s kinda cool that the last time you see me, it looks like I’m gonna win the fight, and then you cut to Lettie Mae. Me and that vampire went at it, and unfortunately, he wins. [Laughs] They’ve given me such an incredible journey on this show that I’ve never had any complaints about what they’ve written for me. So when I found out, I was just like, “Okay, great. Let’s get it started. This is the final season. We can’t all make it to the end.” You wouldn’t have a show. There wouldn’t be any drama. It wouldn’t be True Blood if somebody didn’t die.
