Former Ted Cruz aide Amanda Carpenter sent out a torrent of tweets this afternoon pointing fingers at Donald Trump and his campaign operatives for spreading the smear that she had an affair with the Texas senator, sparked by a story that appeared in the National Enquirer.
'The thing that's especially ironic is that hordes of Trump supporters accuse me of being an adulterer when their candidate really is one,' she wrote on Twitter this afternoon. 'I've never cheated on my husband. But, Trump has cheated on his wife/wives, MANY times. Chew on that Trumpers.'
Carpenter, now a CNN contributor, continued to rage when she saw that Trump's social media director Dan Scavino had peddled a web video that purported to show evidence of the affair – mainly that she was wearing a suit jacket the same day Cruz's was missing.
'Donald Trump CANNOT say he isn't smearing women when his own social media director is doing it,' she wrote, adding the hashtag, #NeverTrump.

Amanda Carpenter called out Donald Trump - who has said he had nothing to do with the National Enquirer report - saying he's culpable by association if his social media director is pushing the story
'How many more Trump men will smear my reputation,' she added, tagging Scavino and Roger Stone, who was quoted in the National Enquirer article. 'Who else #SleazyDonald?' she asked.
Scavino had commented and shared the video writing 'Amazing,' adding '@RealDonaldTrump's fault,' suggesting that the video had shown enough proof for the tabloid tale to be true.
Earlier today Carpenter had responded to the allegations shown in the clip, saying the jacket wasn't Cruz's: 'does he wear an elbow length jacket with ruched sleeves?'
'Get back to huffing chem trails, trolls,' she added.
Cruz decided not to wear a jacket on television because he wanted to show off a fake tattoo, which Carpenter explained was a staff-wide joke, which is why she was wearing one too.
The video also suggests she was up late eating cheese with a 'friend,' hinting that friend was Cruz because he said publicly that he loves cheese.
Once Scavino caught wind that Carpenter was asking friends to screenshot 'this smear job about me,' he wrote back: '#ICYMI Ms. Carpenter wants friends to abolish me from Twitter for replying to a Twitter users video clip? #Priceless'
'I want you to be accountable for harassing me. That's what I want. This is harassment by a presidential campaign,' she replied.
The video was hashtagged #CubanMistressCrisis, an internet nickname given to the affairs story, which Trump said Sunday he did not place in the tabloid.
'I had nothing to do with it, the campaign had nothing to do with it,' Trump said of the National Enquirer to ABC's Jonathan Karl on This Week, though he refused to condemn it.
'I don't care, I don't care, the National Enquirer did a story, it was their story, it wasn't my story, it was about Ted Cruz, I have no idea if it was right or not.'
'They actually have a very good record of being right, but I have absolutely no idea,' Trump added. 'Frankly, I hope it's not right.'

Friday's brouhaha over the National Enquirer story was the cherry on top to an already nasty week in politics between Republican rivals Cruz and Trump over their wives.
It began with an ad that came out – courtesy of the Make America Awesome super PAC – that showed a nude Melania Trump in an attempt to 'slut shame' the potential first lady and have voters choose Cruz instead.
'And just so you understand, that super PAC is very friendly to Ted Cruz, he knew all about it, 100 percent, so he started it, I didn't start it,' Trump said Sunday.
Cruz condemned the ad and maintained he had nothing to do with it – though it had suggested that voters support the senator.
'The ad they put out was deplorable,' Cruz said. 'And as soon as I saw it I denounced it and said it was wrong, but it wasn't us.'
At the time, Cruz put out an olive branch of sorts on Twitter, writing, 'Donald, real men don't attack women. your wife is lovely, and Heidi is the love of my life.'
Trump didn't back down, threatening via Twitter to 'spill the beans' on Cruz's wife Heidi and then, on Sunday, hinted that something wasn't quite right in Heidi Cruz's past.

On Friday, before the National Enquirer story took ahold of the news cycle, Trump spokeswoman Katrina Pierson, who was one of the women fingered to have an affair with Cruz – something she, like Carpenter, vehemently denied – suggested that Heidi Cruz's career on Wall Street and the Bush Administration pushed policies that are counter to what her husband wants to achieve as president.
'So spilling the beans on Heidi Cruz simply means that her her entire career has been spent working against everything Ted Cruz says he stands for,' Pierson said.
But an hour later, Pierson, along with Carpenter were having to push back on allegations that they were romantically involved with Cruz, a smear the Texas senator suggested originated from the Trump team.
The tabloid story uses incredibly loose language to suggest that private investigators are looking into rumors of five Cruz affairs.
The story only quoted one person: the former Trump operative Stone.
'These stories have been swirling around Cruz for some time,' Stone told the tabloid. 'I believe where there is smoke, there is fire. I have to believe that this will hurt him with his evangelical Christian supporters.'
Cruz on 'rat copulation' as he blames Trump for sex smear
It didn't include the names of any of the alleged mistresses and instead descriptions and blurred-out pictures of the five women, however users on Twitter played detective.
GOP strategist Liz Mair, a respected voice in her field whose super PAC Make America Awesome was actually behind the nude Melania Trump attack, verified the identities of two of the women: Pierson and Carpenter, who both previously had done work for Cruz.

The National Enquirer accused Ted Cruz of five affairs - all of which he denied today.
It did not name the women but said they were:

Allegedly had 'fling' after he was made Texas solicitor general.

'Ted supposedly had it on with a prostitute,' the magazine said.
'Ted Cruz should sue over [obviously] false allegation he had an affair [with] Katrina Pierson, [though] I've heard she may have come onto him. Who knows,' Mair tweeted.
Turning to the Carpenter allegation, Mair had wrote: 'As for people suggesting Amanda Carpenter slept [with] Cruz, she should sue them.'
'That is [obviously] false, as anyone who knows Amanda knows,' Mair continued.
'It would also be fun to get access to Trump comms staff, Trump Org emails as part of discovery in a defamation suit,' Mair added in another tweet, tagging Carpenter's Twitter handle.
Pierson was outraged that Mair had identified her, dashing off a tweet.
'What's worse? People who actually believe the trash in tabloids, or the ones who know it's false & spread it anyway? #stupidity on all levels,' Pierson tweeted.
Talking to DailyMail.com, Pierson wrote: 'Speaking for myself, the article is trash and 100 percent false.'
Carpenter's rebuttal occurred on live television when a Trump ally, Adriana Cohen, a columnist for the Boston Herald, blind-sided the CNN contributor forcing her to respond.
'If we're going to call Donald Trump's character into question, I would like Ted Cruz to issue a statement on whether or not the story is true, that he has had affairs with may women, including, you were named, Amanda,' Cohen said, pointing to her co-panelist.
'Will you denounce this story or will you confirm it?'
Carpenter denounced, with an assist from host Kate Bolduan, who said that CNN had done no reporting to lend credibility to the Enquirer's account and the subsequent Twitter claims as to who its unnamed women were.

'It's categorically false,' Carpenter said. 'You should be ashamed for spreading this smut. Donald Trump supporters should be held to account for it.'
With the two women on the record, giving the story some legs, Cruz then was also forced to respond, which he did Friday and continued to do so today.
'This story is garbage. It is tabloid smear. And it came from Donald Trump and his henchmen,' Cruz said yesterday on Fox News Sunday. 'You know the only person quoted on record there is Roger Stone, the chief political adviser to Donald Trump.'
Today Carpenter continued pushing back, writing tweet after tweet to promote her message.
'Not only does Trump demean and reduce women to sex objects but so do so many of the people he surrounds himself with. We have to stop it,' she wrote.
'Trump can't stand strong women who have the nerve to stand up to him. His history of objectifying women is sick,' she said.
'There is no "war between wives,"' Carpenter said, discussing the controversy that got this most recent campaign spat started. 'It's Trump and his minions launching asymmetric warfare against Heidi Cruz for having a career.'
'Shame,' she added for Trumpian effect.
