The post office is not a “business”.

It’s not supposed to make money. It’s supposed to provide a service for the people.

This is like saying firefighting is an “outdated business model”

:stopitslime:

If it’s not a business then why do they post their yearly operating income every year? Why not just make sending and receive packages free?

Yep people lose sight of that little point. Local, State and Federal agencies are not actually businesses. The role of governmental agencies is to provide services and to regulate. A small percentage of government entities engage in enterprise type stuff that resembles businesses, but that is usually like airport authorities and stadium type stuff, but from what I remember they were still governmental in nature as well.

All government agencies report on the economics of their operation.
Why not just make sending and receive packages free?
The payments are ment as a subsidy for the service, not for profit.

To do a service for the American people.

Those “for profit” delivery companies do not provide what the post office does.

the post office is subsidized through your tax dollars and isn’t really “free”. Those for profit companies you are just paying up front.

I don’t see how these companies provide less of a service than the post office.

The post office “loses” money because the service they offer is not balanced for profit.

If they needed to profit then they would have to charge lots more for the service or majorly reduce the frequency/reliability.

Reliable, quick, mail is a public service/need.

It’s not the same as a private package delivery service.

The postal service was given a monopoly for a reason. Congress wanted all citizens to get postal services regardless of how remote those people were. It was never meant to be a business in the traditional sense.

And if the post office were truly a business would you want Trump to run that shyt? :picard:

We would all be subject to the whims of those corporations. The USPS isn’t perfect but just turning over a critical service to privatization is not the answer.
