I swear they already do this when you apply for an ESTA? I seem to recall when I last applied a few months ago they asked for links to any social media apps I use.

I gave them my IG.

The rest I deleted them all off my phone. My WhatsApp as well.

I'm back and forth to Florida a lot and its never been an issue.

It says it's part of an Executive Order which was put out in January 2025. The main story is they are doing away with the ESTA website, and will only have a mobile app.
