While I respect both men, I think they had half the equation. It was like they had the medicine in the syringe but they had no needle to get it into the patient.
I'd like to contrast the '80s and '90s black consciousness movements with the recent Target protest. You have to ask why someone like Jamal Bryant could mobilize a nationwide boycott, while both Anderson and Wilson couldn't do the same thing in their own neighborhood.
I truly loved Amos as an intellectual, but I realized he didn't have the solution when I started looking at his own organizations and the aftermath of his death. After a little research, I was dismayed that Both the black speaking circuit he was part of and his Harlem print shop fizzled away into nothingness after his death. He was also incapable of affecting real change in the brief period between his dismissal from his professor job in the 80s and his death in the mid-90s.
And believe me. I love his writing. Books like blueprint for Black power are excellent reads. But based on his incapability of testing out those strategies in real life, I think the philosophy is incomplete.
