Jacksonville has a tiny convention center and it might be a block or maybe 2 up the road from the greyhound station. The landing got shut down after the madden shooting so you have maybe 1 street and a half to entertain these people in the evening, and anybody who has been involved with political conventions knows the real deals get discussed after dark.
