So you believe the slaves just free to go as they please after the Emancipation proclamation?

Emancipation proclamation was more of a promise than a document immediately freeing the slaves in the confederacy

Quite obviously the confederacy wasn't gonna honor that so a war would be fought to legitimize the abolition of slavery

If the union lost, the Emancipation would just be words on paper. And you ain't listening. I didn't say Lincoln had no part to play. My point is to simply take the hero worship out of the equation. Saying Lincoln freed the slaves is leaving out historical context and giving him sole credit while ignoring people who did the hard work to abolish slavery
