The electoral process is an exchange between two parties, an agreement between the candidate running for office and the voters on whom his or her success hinges. Democrats have spent decades taking the black vote for granted, using the goodwill they earned from the Civil Rights Act, treating our support as a given and us as a group that'll dependably fall in line on election day. Since the mass exodus of whites from from the Democratic party that occurred in the wake of that bill's passage, they've leaned on black votes for the party's electoral survival, while offering nothing to black people within its platform that specifically benefits them. Seems like a fool's bargain, to me.
