To leave him in place in the US would be the cherry-on-top f*ck-you-die-slow Cold War ending. He'd be a lightning rod every single day, in every single place he goes, a nightmare expense to secure his safety, US courts would be jammed up for years on both procedural and constitutional issues, he'd be at rallies everywhere giving speeches and encouraging the zealots non-stop, the inevitable internet regulation, and on and on and on. More chaos on top of chaos.
He's always done this, just like Roger Stone and any number of his other role models: pull some questionable mess, dance away scot-free on loopholes and technicalities and let the lawyers handle the fallout and settlements. Whether or not he plans to resign and have Pence pardon him, there's a host of enablers that need keeping an eye on; to focus only on Trump is to let them slide and have them pull this/similar mess again later down the line. McConnell, Gaetz, Jordan, Graham, Paul, a slew of admin people, DoJ people, there's a looooong list of housecleaning that would need be done.
Still: one way or another, you pay what you owe.
