This is true. But it's more that Trump is resetting the argument and controlling the narrative. Ultimately it is always about control. This is how people like him operate and it is an effective strategy. Reshape the whole argument to make your opponent look foolish by forcing them to commit to a definition you can nail them down on. If they try and do the same to you, accuse them of operating in poor faith. Gaslighting but on a grander scale.
