I understand your argument but I think it's just a belief in cultural superiority and at times delusion because you fail to attribute all the bad things in your country to your culture. That's why that sense of cultural superiority is a double edged sword. From my theory especially with African immigrants but more so pronounced in Nigerians, they fail to attribute the social/economic/political breakdowns to something about the culture but only to a few bad powerful actors doing bad things.
So when they feel that way and come to a stable country and a country that works, it propels to overachieve because they have no inferiority complex. That even translates into the marriage and relationship thing, in almost every African household I have been to they encourage the children to marry someone from their own country of origin there is no yearning of interracial marriage or marrying white people or other Black people from a different country. That's why I said what I said about validation. Some people literally come to America with a proud of sense of self and cultural superiority but yet not attributing the failures of their society back home to some aspects of their culture. That can be a good and bad thing at times.

It's not really one way though.
As a Nigerian American who has grown up with African Americans, I've met quite a lot of AA's have adopted the mentality of being better than Nigerians(African booty scratcher, thinking every Nigerian person lives in poverty, etc) due to the fact that they've lived in America(Kind of being delusional to think that they're accepted as true parts of America) when in reality they've just been an oppressed group of people who are tolerated like unwanted house guests more than anything.
Personally, I find it to be backwards on both sides. We're both groups of people who came from the same place and have seen our progress as people inhibited by white oppression(Colonialism vs slavery) Whether or not we're AA's or native blacks, we are black, and that makes us equally inferior in the eyes of most people in America and abroad.
