itll never happen tho... because it would require politicians to effectively vote themselves out of office :mjlol:
Lol@you getting hype over the most transparent age-old political stunt in the book. Like congress is going to vote to shorten their own careers. :mjlol:
so is this not the first step to correcting this disgusting practice?

Although term limits is a great idea it takes a huge amount of votes to ratify or change the Constitution right?! :patrice:

theres no excuse for leaving these criminals in their seats for 20 plus years :yeshrug:
Except, experience matters.

In an increasingly globalized world, you don't need people who don't know WTF they're doing holding important positions. I'm sorry some of ya'll don't understand this.

I'm all for "access" to office, but keeping office isn't something that should be taken lightly.

Adversaries around the world aren't just giving up power like that and we need competent, experienced people to represent our COLLECTIVE interest.

I'm all for holding them more accountable and what not...but theres arguments against this that you all haven't considered (as usual).

Im asking because i do not know.

I also dont expect congress to vote for term limits for themselves. But.. if its the will of the people.. how could we make it happen?
I think something like this would require a constitutional amendment.

It would have to follow this process
Proposals to adopt an amendment may be called either by a two-thirds vote by both houses of Congress or by a national convention as a result of resolutions adopted by two-thirds (presently at least 34 out of 50) of the states' legislatures. For an amendment to be adopted, three-quarters of the states (presently at least 38 out of 50) must ratify the amendment either by a vote of approval in each state's legislature or bystate ratifying conventions – Congress may specify which method must be used to ratify the amendment. Congress may also set a deadline by which the threshold for adoption must be met.

The state by state option would be the best shot because as already said, US congress will not enact this on themselves.

It won't happen and everyone knows it. A constitutional amendment for term limits need a 2/3rds majority in both houses of congress. Or by a constitution conventional with support of 2/3rds of all legislature.

Politicians calling for term limits is just a cynical ploy to boost poll numbers. Ross Perot did it in 92. The Trump campaign is pathetic.

How else do we hold them accountable?

These career politicians know that once they get in...most likely they will stay in. I wonder what the numbers actually are.. how long on average are these guys staying in office?

They know that they can slide on by on name recognition alone for decades.

Sure I'd be for term limits, but it won't happen.

Trump isn't serious about term limits, just like he isn't serious about running for president. You are proving that you are a naive sucker just like everyone else Trump has conned and fukked over his whole life by taking this latest cynical political ploy seriously, much less getting excited about it.

Thats kind of what i figured unfortunately.. it may be a ploy.. but i personally think that is something that most Americans would want.

I like the idea. I am not looking to dismiss it. I do realize making it happen is probably damn near impossible tho sadly.

That's because she's a serious person that's actually running for president instead of a reality show star whipping up populism so he can try and cash in with a tv network after he loses a sham election he had no intention on winning.
