Trump being a conman suggests he's in on the con, which is what @88m3 seems to think. I think Trump, in this case, is the unpredictable lunatic who's plans may have run into reality.

Still, I want out of those wars yesterday, and take no joy in Trump not making it happen.

The only con Trump is capable of running is creating an illusion that he is a strong leader.

Look at the farce that was the North Korea summit.

I’m convinced he doesn’t even have the capability to understand the substance of these issues.

For one, how about not letting the Kurds get massacred again like we did when we abandoned them with Herbert Walker Bush.

How can we get out of the ME, which you said you wanted to do, and prevent the Kurds from getting massacred? If both are not possible, would you stay indefinitely?

Then you support never leaving.:francis:
There is no real scenario where we leave and they are not bushed.

How can we get out of the ME, which you said you wanted to do, and prevent the Kurds from getting massacred? If both are not possible, would you stay indefinitely?

That is a conundrum, honestly speaking.

I don’t have the answers but I know, waking up one morning and deciding to immediately withdraw after taking orders from Turkey is not the right answer.

The whole thing is complicated af and Trump’s lack of forethought and understanding doesn’t help.

Goon Squad - Catset
Two months after abruptly announcing that US troops would leave Syria, prompting controversy and fallout including the resignation of his defense secretary and his envoy to multinational forces fighting the Islamic State, Trump is on record backing a continuing American presence in the country “100%”.

NBC News obtained a letter sent to Trump by a bipartisan group of senators applauding his change of plan, which was quietly announced last month. You can see it here, including the president’s Sharpie-applied notes.

“I agree 100%,” Trump wrote. “ALL is being done.” He also highlighted a paragraph in which the senators, led by Lindsey Graham of South Carolina and Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island, said they shared his aims in Syria, which were itemised thus:
  • That Isis never returns
  • That Iran is not “emboldened”
  • That the “best outcome for American interests” is achieved
The senators also said keeping a small US contingent in the country would “help prevent conflict between our Nato ally Turkey and the Syrian Democratic Forces that have been central to the counter-Isis campaign”.

After Trump announced his intention to pull out, many critics suggested that Kurds who have fought with US forces were at risk of being wiped out by Turkey.
