From what I've heard, the troops will be there to "process" them, but I agree with them being there. Their present numbers would overwhelm the number of border patrol agents and customs officers. There would be nothing to stop them from simply overpowering them if the troops weren't there.
You can't just artificially create band of 5000 people and creating the image of just forcing your way in and not expect a sovereign nation not to protect itself.

whether it is hype or not, it wouldn't/shouldn't/couldn't be an effective tool to manipulate folks, used by all political parties if individuals strive to be informed citizens, that understands/accepts that there are certain topics that are beyond politics.
