Yes. I'm also born here, came up in a less than ideal situation unique among most Indian-Americans and had to make a living the hard way like many other Americans. Just because I share the same ancestry with those people doesn't mean I can relate to them. Are they sticking their necks out for me? Nah, as a matter of fact they probably look down on Indians like me. So why am I going to go to bat for them?
I may defend Indians and India on a general macro level, but that's where it stops. At the end of the day I consider myself an individual, period. My circumstances are mine and mine alone.
There are a lot of jokes about how India is dirty, chaotic, etc; but India also has some of the best technical schools in the world, and some of the best medical facilities. People from Europe and, as you probably know, Africa, go there for a quality education where they can get the skills required to develop their own countries. Indians are perfectly capable of educating their own population and benefiting from those efforts. A lot of these H1-B Visa immigrants are just coming here to make a quick buck while having absolutely ZERO stake or care for their host country. I'm not a hypocrite, I firmly believe anybody doing that - Indian, Mexican, African or whoever else can kick on rocks.
