Trump insists the Central Park 5 are guilty — despite their exoneration and $41 million settlement

The five men who were wrongfully accused of raping a jogger in Central Park in 1989 have been exonerated — but don’t tell that to Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.

In response to a CNN report on Trump’s role in ginning up public anger at the so-called Central Park Five, Trump said that he still believed that the five men in the case were guilty — even though their convictions were overturned and they were awarded a settlement of $41 million related to their wrongful imprisonment.

“They admitted they were guilty,” Trump said. “The police doing the original investigation say they were guilty. The fact that that case was settled with so much evidence against them is outrageous. And the woman, so badly injured, will never be the same.”

The five men were exonerated for allegedly raping a woman named Trisha Meili after DNA evidence revealed that she had actually been sexually assaulted a man named Matias Reyes, who had confessed to being responsible for the assault. Their convictions were vacated shortly afterward and the five men were released in 2002.

Trump back in 1989 took out an ad in the New York Times that used the Central Park Five case as a reason why the state of New York needed to bring back the death penalty.

:mjlol: He might be a Clinton plant after all.

Trump believes the exact opposite of what I do on most things, and agrees with me on the most easily discredited facet of his campaign (protectionism), but I'm voting for him anyway :obama:
:childplease: As I've been saying for months, my priority issue is foreign policy, and I have no doubt in my mind that Hillary, from her unrepentence about her disasterous term as SoS to her stoking Russophobic sentiments with the neoconservative establishment coalescing around her, is the more competent and willing warhawk. But please, I would love to hear how opposition to amnesty and trade deals like TPP have been "discredited". My feeble mind simply cannot understand how legalization of millions of illegal immigrants primarily working in the same sectors as much of the African-American community is a better policy for the African-American community than enforcing deportation laws. When you're done with that one, I would love to hear how the corporate overlords would look after the African-American community in the wake of TPP. I was unaware that the only reasonable policy is to continue sliding down the mountain face, smiling.

Your spin would make KellyAnne Conway blush. :mjlol:

I like how you added the qualifier "competent" though. At least you seemingly stopped believing Trump is a dove.

African Americans are mostly migrant workers and mostly work below minimum wage? That's news.
And enforcing deportation laws means doors being kicked in and Latins being hunted. That results is choas in many communities
The only people who will look out for the African American community are African American citizens. It's not a presidential issue.
