Political analyst Bill Schneider on Wednesday said the political environment in the U.S. is the most divided since the Civil War.
I never thought I’d end my career covering a civil war in America. We may not be there yet, but if we don’t turn around now, we will surely get where we’re going
At a moment when the country has never seemed angrier, two political commentators from opposite sides of the divide concurred recently on one point that was once nearly unthinkable: The country is on the verge of “civil war.”
First came former U.S. attorney Joseph diGenova, a Fox News regular and ally of President Trump’s. “We are in a civil war,” he said. “The suggestion that there’s ever going to be civil discourse in this country for the foreseeable future is over. . . . It’s going to be total war.”
The next day, Nicolle Wallace, a former Republican operative turned MSNBC commentator and Trump critic, played a clip of diGenova’s commentary on her show and agreed with him — although she placed the blame squarely on the president.
I don't think a president should ever utter or quote those words, until it's too late. Until it's undeniably, already happening. And although we have had political violence, we aren't there. To talk about Civil War before then is to make it a more real possibility.
Still, I didn't read that pastors quote as a threat, but as a statement of fact.
It's been said plenty of times that we are now as divided as we have been since the Civil War.

And remember all of those secession pieces?
Why Blue States Should Exit Red America
Maybe It’s Time for America to Split Up
Calexit? Texit?
A removal of Trump via impeachment, whether you think it's a good idea or not is only going to worsen that division.

Check the names of the presidents quoted in that letter to Trumps legal team from the whistleblowers legal team. Lincoln, Kennedy, Reagan. What do they all have in common?
