If the whole of canada takes after BC, then this will hurt. 14% of coal exports from the US go to Canada as of last year.

The coal industry is already titteringand I'm sure a sizable loss in this income won't help matters :mjlol:

I'm not even mad at this point. Just enjoying the ride.
When the coal industry starts losing even more money, Spicer's gonna say they did this to help the long term health of the miners. Just looking out for the little guy. :smugdraper:

What about 9 million American jobs?

Study finds nearly 9 million U.S. jobs depend on trade and investment with Canada

Major findings of the study:

  • Nearly 9 million U.S. jobs depend on trade and investment with Canada
  • U.S/Canada trade is responsible for about $1 trillion of the United States’ G.D.P.
  • U.S.–Canada trade creates employment in every state and congressional district
  • The number of state jobs supported by trade and investment with Canada ranges from 21,300 (Alaska) to 1.2 million (California)
  • The number of jobs in congressional districts supported by trade and investment with Canada ranges from 5,000 (TX-09) to 43,500 (NY-12).
  • Canadian-owned businesses in the United States employ over half a million Americans

So if i'm Canada, and I buy 400 billion dollars worth of your milk, and you only buy 100 billion of mine, and you decide to antagonize me why wouldn't I just say fukk you and help you lose some of that 400 bill?

In the case of milk, the current trade agreement is MUCH MORE FAVORABLE and help keep US diary farmers employed than the other way around. This trade deal creates American jobs. Trump is on his way to killing these jobs.

Secondly, on the Lumber front, Canada is much more forested and as a result has a greater supply of lumber they can provide. Which means given the excess supply they can provide lumber at a cheaper price to US consumers like home builders and construction companies. I don't think US lumber jacks are as needed or in as demand as construction work in this country, so this also helps US businesses and jobs. You slap a 30% tarrif on that, you reduce the supply coming in and make it more expensive which means less construction jobs being filled and less US jobs.

Come in and explain your logic for this being good.

So I'm not going to insult you and want to talk this out. My first question would be why?

Why is trade bad? What about materials and goods that are not as bountiful or readily available in the US or not available in the US at all?

Also if the goal is jobs, then being able to sell our products to other countries allows for a larger base of buyers. Which means even more jobs to be created.

I don't have no problem with us selling our products . It should be optional if we want to import your shyt . No deals . We pump enough oil and have enough technology to last without other countries.

What about the truckers?
They can truck the windows made in Illinois to the homes in California .
