A voter who has indicated previous support of Donald Trump and the Republican Party has gone viral after saying the GOP "blew it."
Posting on X, formerly Twitter, Matt Van Swol, a former nuclear scientist blasted the GOP for failing to codify cuts made to the federal government by Trump's new agency, the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and said the party had lost his trust.
The cuts are aimed at reducing waste, targeting inefficiency and saving money.
Why It Matters
Van Swol previously voted Democrat but became a Republican influencer on social media after calling for more aid in North Carolina after Hurricane Helene in 2024, according to the Telegraph. He frequently tweets about political issues.
Trump won the November 2024 election in part by wooing voters in swing states like North Carolina.

What To Know
In March, Senate Republicans pushed for Congress to enshrine into law DOGE cuts, aiming to turn them into enduring policy shifts. However, some Republicans have pushed back, saying this would be difficult to achieve, according to the Washington Post.
Van Swol said the GOP has "lost" him over the lack of action on DOGE cuts.

Our newly elected Senator in Pennsylvania-/SenMcCormickPA lied to everyone here in Pennsylvania.
I personally watched him stand right beside Elon during his town hall in Pittsburgh.
Dave McCormick repeatedly told the audience how much he supported DOGE.
He repeatedly said he supported decreasing government waste, fraud, and abuse.
He campaigned a lot on Elon's back here in Pennsylvania.
Then he voted against DOGE!
He lied, we believed him, and then he voted against it.
I will never vote for Dave McCormick again.
Another worthless politician who lies.

You seem like the type of person who wants to make effective changes. We need people like you to help get more liberty-minded people like Thomas Massie in office. Primaries will be everything.
I tried the 3rd party route via the Libertarian Party for years but itās just a spoiler strategy that doesnāt work.
Iām headed back to the Republican party to change it from within. I hope youāll reconsider and stick around for a while.
