most important thing to watch is how much money defense contractors will get for this space force

This is whats driving this, I suspect. The writing is on the wall with their War on Terror cash cow running out of steam and theyre looking for alternative. This is perfect for them because the average American has no fukking clue about space travel and there wont be any bad PR....just government contract after government contract.
